Isolation Valve, Inlet Hose and Waste Connection
Every machine hooks up to three things: an isolation valve on the supply, an inlet hose to the machine and a drainage link to the sink waste.
Isolation valve
a small tap fitted on the water line in a reachable spot, so the machine can be isolated for service without shutting down the whole house.
Inlet hose
the flexible line from that valve to the machine's inlet. We check both ends for drips once it's on.
Waste connection
the drain hose joins the sink trap at a dedicated spigot and loops up high beneath the bench before dropping, so dirty water can't siphon back into the machine.
Test cycle
we run a full wash before leaving and watch the valve, the hose joints and the drainage.
Hose lengths and fitting sizes come from the appliance maker's instructions, so bring the install sheet to the job.

Do You Need a Plumber to Install a Dishwasher
Yes, a licensed plumber makes the water and drainage hook-ups in Queensland. Regulated plumbing work belongs to licence holders, and the QBCC says this protects your home, your health and your rights.
The QBCC's unregulated list is short: shower heads, filter cartridges, tap washers and jumper valves, cistern washers, drain caps and grates, and irrigation downstream of a tap. A dishwasher hook-up is nowhere on it.
Two certification marks matter around the job:
The machine itself
needs registration with the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) scheme, which shows its star rating and water use. WaterMark certification is not required for the appliance.
The fittings at the connection
are different: most plumbing products installed in Australia carry WaterMark certification and appear on the product database before a licensed plumber can legally install them.
The power point behind the machine is a separate matter outside our plumbing scope. Licences can be confirmed on the QBCC's online registers, and ours is QBCC No: 15024607.

Existing Connections or a New Run of Pipe
A straight swap reuses the points already under the bench; a machine going where no point exists means running fresh supply and drainage.
Swapping at an existing point
The old machine comes out, the new one goes in, and the valve, hose and drain link get replaced or reconnected. This is the simpler job, and it suits most replacements in established kitchens.
Adding a new point
The supply pipe gets extended and the sanitary drainage gets altered. In a standing home, both are classed as notifiable work: no council approval is needed, and the plumber registers the finished job with the QBCC on a Form 4 within 10 business days. You receive a copy.
One exception applies in units and apartments. Where a building sits on a combined drain or a dual reticulated water supply, adding an appliance or fixture is permit work, and the plumber applies to the local government before starting. Ask us which category your building falls into and we'll tell you before we quote.

What Keperra Kitchens Bring to the Job
Census figures put the suburb at 84.3 percent separate houses, and area-level approvals for 2021-22 came to just 11 new dwellings. So a dishwasher job here almost always means sliding a machine into a kitchen that was fitted out long ago, not plumbing a fresh build.
Cabinet space was often planned decades before dishwashers were standard, so a new point sometimes means working around tight under-bench access. Water services laid in the 1950s subdivision years still run beneath driveways and kerbs in streets like Glengarry Road's older pockets, closing on seventy years old. The ground movement that splits those mains also strains the branch lines feeding an older kitchen.
If your kitchen reno involves the sink as well, our kitchen sink installation page covers that work, and the full kitchen and laundry plumbing service handles everything else in the room.

Plumbing job in Keperra?
$0 call-out fees, available 24/7, and same-day where we can.

What Shapes the Price
Three things drive the figure: whether the points exist, how easily the pipework under the bench can be reached, and the paperwork. A swap at existing points sits at the simple end.
Running a new water and drainage point adds labour and materials, and a tight or awkward under-bench cavity adds time on top. If the job is notifiable, the licensed contractor lodges the Form 4 and pays the lodgement fee, and may pass that cost plus administration on to you. A fixed quote settles the total before work starts.
Dishwasher Questions From Keperra Homes
Call (07) 3523 7121Can I install a dishwasher myself in Queensland?
No, not the plumbing side. The water and drainage hook-ups are licensed work, and the QBCC's unregulated list leaves them out, so a licence holder makes them.
Does a new dishwasher point in Keperra need a council permit?
No, not in a normal standing house. New water and drainage points count as notifiable work, so the plumber lodges a Form 4 with the QBCC instead of applying to council.
What does the WELS star rating on a dishwasher mean?
The stars show the machine's water efficiency. The label also carries the water used per cycle, and the product is registered before it goes on sale.
Can the store that sold my dishwasher connect it?
Yes, provided the installer holds a QBCC plumbing licence. Whoever joins the machine to the water and waste points needs one, and the QBCC's online registers show who does.
Is dishwasher installation different in a Keperra unit?
Yes, sometimes. In a building on a shared drain or a recycled-water supply, adding an appliance is permit work, so ask the plumber which category your building falls into before the job starts.
